The Concept of Prophetic Philosophy

Firstly, let’s thank unto Allah SWT who has been giving us some mercies and blessing, until we can attend in this happy place without any troubles and obstacles.

Secondly, my Sholawat and salam always be given to our prophet Muhammad peace be upon him who has guided us from the darkness to the Lightness,

from stupidly era to the cleverness namely Islam religion.

Thirdly I say thank you very much to the master of ceremony having given

me opportunity to deliver my speech in front of audience.

This occasion I would like to deliver  The concept philosophy of prophecy.

According to Fazlurohman, prophethood is a universal phenomenon, and even the teachings brought by a prophet can be applied to all human beings.

When linked to philosophy in the sense of practical philosophy rather than theoretical philosophy taught in lectures, philosophy can be interpreted as a way for humans to read, see, and understand issues in life.

In life, if humans ever ask, “What is the purpose of life?” or “For what reason were humans created?” and the most fundamental question, “What is the ultimate purpose of human life after death?”

From these questions, humans are already engaging in philosophy, as humans have the ability to think about what they want to do and can achieve it by changing their patterns of thought and behaviour.

Many disciplines of knowledge address these questions, one of which is psychology. In this context, psychology can help answer these questions.

Prophetic philosophy is one of the prophetic concepts we can draw from our Prophet, Muhammad SAW, as a guide for humanity.

I am quoting from the philosophy of prophethood as presented by the philosopher of this era, our teacher, who explained very well the thoughts of the Islamic philosopher Al-Farabi. He argued that prophets are able to access the active intellect (aql fa’al), which is later known as al-hayulani bil fil’lil mustofa.

There is a notable difference between philosophers and prophets in how revelation is received.

First, I use the term presented by our teacher: philosophers receive revelation through a bottom-up process, meaning it comes through nature and then the mind, leading to knowledge about God.

Second, the revelation received by prophets is described using the term top-down, meaning knowledge about God is directly given by God and can then be applied to the followers who follow them.
